Statement on Municipal Primary Election Results

Democratic Party energized and united headed into 2023 Municipal Election

NEW ALBANY, May 2, 2021 – The Floyd County Democratic Party released the following statement following the results of the 2023 Municipal Primary Election:

“Tonight, we emerge from the Municipal Primary united behind a strong, experienced slate of nominees ready to work to improve and grow our community,” stated Party Chair Adam Dickey. “With the steady leadership of Mayor Jeff Gahan, City Clerk Vicki Glotzbach, and our Democratic Council Members, New Albany has grown and prospered with strong, quality parks, riverfront enhancements and trail projects; critical infrastructure improvements; and smart public safety enhancements.”

Mayor Jeff Gahan echoed this sentiment.

“I want to thank all the voters for coming out today. I appreciate your support very much and it was good to catch up with many of you at the polls,” Gahan stated.

He added, “The City of New Albany is in good financial shape, and we are seeing lots of both public and private investment in our River City. I am looking forward to seeing and listening to many more residents this summer, as we do our best to keep New Albany moving full steam ahead.”

In addition to Gahan, Chris FitzGerald emerged as the Party’s candidate for the City Council’s 4th District. Other candidates for City Clerk and Council were unopposed in the Primary Election.

"On behalf of our party, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our municipal primary candidates for their willingness to serve our community,” added Dickey. “We look forward to the General Election this November, earning the votes of our fellow citizens, and making our community the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
