Statement on the Passing of Robert Caesar

Four -Term City Councilman passed after brief illness

  

NEW ALBANY, April 11, 2022 – Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement in regard to the passing of New Albany City Council member Robert Caesar:

“Our party is deeply saddened by the passing of City Councilman Robert Caesar,” stated Dickey. “Bob, who was first elected to the city government in 2007,was a good friend known for his generous nature, warm spirit, and service to others.

“During his time on the council, Bob was a steadfast voice for his district and worked to improve our community for all our citizens. He supported investments to the New Albany Parks system including the construction of River Run Water Park, enhancements along the Ohio River Greenway, and the development of a new City Hall. He was an advocate for downtown redevelopment, supported public safety funding, infrastructure improvements, and was a leading member on the New Albany Bicentennial committee.

“Bob was particularly honored by his election as New Albany City Council President in 2020 and played a critical role in guiding the city through the COVID-19 Pandemic that later hit that same year. A businessman by profession, he was a long time owner and operator of J.O. Endris Jewelers where he always met customers with a smile. Bob served on several community boards, including the New Albany Redevelopment Authority, the IU Southeast Board of Advisors, Develop New Albany, the Art Council of Southern Indiana, Caesars Foundation, the Silver Hills Neighborhood Association, and the Silver Hills Historic Society.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his son, Scott Caesar and their family and friends during this time of grief and mourning.”    

The visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road in New Albany on Wednesday, April 13, 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14 at the funeral home chapel.
