Democrats present qualified, competent slate for 2022 election

Party focused on serving Floyd County’s citizens

NEW ALBANY, February 7, 2022 – The Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement regarding today’s filing deadline:

“Running for public office is a distinct privilege and today our party is proud to have put forward a slate of candidates which are qualified, committed, and prepared to serve our community in public office. With an average age of 53 years old, it reflects the diversity of our community with candidates of varying backgrounds, age, faith, racial and ethnic identity. They are business owners, educators, professional service practitioners, career law enforcement officers, blue-collar workers, and retirees. Nearly half of the Democratic candidates running this election cycle are women and, in the case of Circuit Court Judge candidate Dana Eberle-Peay, would be the first woman to serve in the position.

“For too long we have watched inexperienced and unqualified Republican officeholders provide insufficient and inept service to our county’s citizens. They have struggled to keep our fiscal affairs in order, offer high quality customer service, and even show up for work. Our county assessor couldn’t even take office on time three years ago because he lacked the qualifications.

“Democrats go into this election under no illusion. We are the underdogs. The Republican supermajority in Indianapolis and in Floyd County has stacked the deck in its favor. There is no doubt they will use fear, distrust, and misinformation to assert our candidates are bogeymen and monsters who have no other motivation than to wreck our government, erode our liberties, and destroy our Hoosier values. This is utter nonsense.

“To the citizens of Floyd County, I assert that the men and women running on our ticket are just like you. They have deep roots in our community serving as civic volunteers, neighborhood leaders, religious clergy, youth mentors, coaches, first responders, and former military service members. They believe in hard work, the goodness of others, and offering a helping hand to those in need. They care about this community and want to see it grow and develop in positive ways that create new opportunities for our citizens.

“Most importantly, they will listen to you and the concerns of our neighbors. They believe there is far more we can accomplish together than apart. They don’t ask for special favors or want special treatment – only the chance to earn your trust and serve you.

“Service, community, and leadership. These are the principles that guide our candidates and local Democratic Party. Let’s put the nonsense to rest and put our faith in them this election.
